Interested in what we are currently working on? SEBI-L turns hard‑to‑access information into trusted, decision‑ready evidence for livestock and aquaculture. We collate, harmonise and curate livestock data and then make is available to our users often through interactive dashboards some of which you can see on our website. Our goal is always to understand the problem the user is trying to solve with data to ensure that our products and solutions are fit for purpose. 

A lot of our work handles confidential data. However, when we can share the data and dashboards we produce, we do! The datasets relevant to livestock are often difficult to access. We make datasets talk to each other through a process of harmonization, and where standards exist we us them to ensure the data is interoperable. 

We are also working with our partners at the University of Edinburgh’s to employ innovative data generation techniques that can extract data and insights from new sources. We want to spot promising technologies early, test them on real livestock use cases, and scale what works – currently, we are exploring pulling figures trapped in PDFs and Word tables; synthesising findings from academic and grey literature; and extracting lessons buried in evaluation reports. Innovation is collaborative: With our partners, we aim to evaluate AI tools for reliability and fit, and design pipelines that are responsible by default, always prioritising security, fairness and transparency. 

Through our work on the data catalogue we will identify where data gaps exist or materials where the data is hard to reach and this will help shape the innovations work. We want more of the right data, available sooner, and less time spent on manual tasks. That frees our researchers (and yours) to analyse results, capture learnings and improve decisions. Then if we can we will share the outputs on this website through data downloads or dashboards
